PLS_Toolbox from the Command Line

April 2, 2024 - April 12, 2024

Scripting everything in MATLAB®

Eigenvector Research, Inc. is pleased to bring you PLS_Toolbox from the Command Line, an online instructor-led live short course. In this hands-on course you will learn to control PLS_Toolbox from the MATLAB command line and how to write scripts to create workflows and to document analyses and model building.

Complete information about the course can be found by following the links below.

Target Audience

PLS_Toolbox from the Command Line was developed for PLS_Toolbox and Solo users who want to improve their efficiency by learning everything necessary to handle all their data science needs in scripts. It is also aimed at people used to working with scripting in other languages such as Python and R. The course is relevant for those working with data from a wide variety of sources, including but not limited to spectroscopy, chemical process data, and laboratory data. Field of application include

  • Process Analysis, e.g. pharmaceutical, food & beverage, and chemical process industries.
  • Analytical Chemistry, e.g. QC labs, forensic investigations, etc.
  • Sensory and Consumer Science
  • Medical Devices
  • Metabolomics, genomics, etc.

Course Description

There are many advanced users of PLS_Toolbox (and Solo) who develop models for calibration and classification from complex data sets. But many of them do not know that anything you can do in the user interfaces can actually be done from the command line in MATLAB–from importing to preprocessing and from model building to model application. Scripting, (the organization of command line commands), comes with a number of advantages such as easy transfer of functionality within an organization, easy handling of updates of data, easy reporting and documenting of work and many, many other things. As soon as you get past the hurdle of scripting, it is hard to go back to solely using the interfaces.

This course will be delivered via WebEx webinar in four segments of two and a half hours each over two weeks, April 2, 4, 11 and 12. The course will be recorded, so if you miss something or want to review you will be able to access the recording shortly after each class.

The course will include many follow-along examples and several homework problems. In order to take advantage of these, participants should equip their computers with current versions of our MATLAB based software PLS_Toolbox. Demo copies will work just fine for the course. Users with Eigenvector accounts can download free demos. If you don’t have an account, start by creating one.

About the Instructors

The course will be led by University of Copenhagen Professor and PLS_Toolbox contributor Rasmus Bro, Ph.D. He will be assisted by members of the Eigenvector scientific and software development team including Technology Principal Bob Roginski, Ph.D. Drs. Bro and Roginski have delivered hundreds of chemometrics and related chemical data science courses at universities, scientific conferences, on-site for companies and at our popular Eigenvector University each year in Seattle.
