Basic Chemometrics PLUS is aimed at engineers, chemists and other scientists who want to be able to analyze their own data, develop their own data models or develop instruments that produce analytical data. It is well suited for those with an interest in
- Process Analysis, e.g. in the pharmaceutical, food and beverage, and process industries.
- Analytical Chemistry, e.g. QC labs, clinical analysis, forensic investigations, etc.
- Sensory and Consumer Science
- Any field that produces chemical/analytical data
The course serves individuals with a need for exploratory data analysis, development of predictive models such as analytical instrument calibrations, soft sensor models, sample classification, or analysis of designed data sets. No prior knowledge is required for this course, although some knowledge of basic statistics and elementary linear algebra is useful.
This course will be delivered via webinar in five segments of three and a half hours each. The course material is drawn from our popular Eigenvector University Series. Basic Chemometrics PLUS Metabolomics will cover the fundamentals of the most commonly used chemometric machine learning methods, principal components analysis (PCA), partial least squares (PLS) regression and PLS Discriminant Analysis (PLS-DA). The class begins with a brief review of Linear Algebra for Chemometricians, and moves quickly into Chemometrics I:PCA and then on to Chemometrics II: Regression and PLS. Aspects of Sample Classification methods will also be covered. The final day will cover material of specific interest in Metabolomics, specifically ANOVA Simultaneous Components Analysis (ASCA) for the analysis of designed metabolomic and other experiments. Emphasis will be on applying these techniques in the chemical process and laboratory environment for pattern recognition, instrument calibration, sample classification and exploratory data analysis.
The course will include many follow-along examples. In order to take advantage of these, participants should equip their computers with current versions of Solo or PLS_Toolbox (and MATLAB) installed. Demo copies will work just fine. Users with Eigenvector accounts can download free demos. If you don’t have an account, start by creating one.
About the Instructor
The courses will be led by Eigenvector President and PLS_Toolbox creator Barry M. Wise. Dr. Wise holds a Ph.D. Chemical Engineering and has over 30 years experience of developing chemometric methods and models in a wide variety of applications. Barry has delivered over 200 chemometrics courses at scientific conferences, on-site for companies and at our popular Eigenvector University each year in Seattle.
Eigenvector Research is pleased to offer this course at a special reduced “COVID-19 Lockdown” price. Prices include instruction, course materials (provided in advance in .pdf format) and a certificate of completion.
