Eigenvector Research, Inc. is pleased to announce Basic Chemometrics PLUS in Tokyo,  a hands-on two day short course covering introductory chemometric methods, PLUS an additional half-day session with an introduction to Machine Learning methods. Basic Chemometrics PLUS will be offered in several locations in the US and abroad in 2020.

Complete information about the course can be found by following the links below.

Target Audience

Basic Chemometrics PLUS is aimed at engineers, chemists and other scientists who want to be able to analyze their own laboratory or process data, develop their own data models or develop instruments that produce analytical data. It is especially well suited for those with an interest in process analytical technology (PAT) in the pharmaceutical, food and beverage, and process industries. The course serves individuals with a need for exploratory data analysis, development of predictive models such as analytical instrument calibrations, soft sensor models, multivariate statistical process control (MSPC) and sample classification. No prior knowledge is required for this course, although some knowledge of basic statistics and elementary linear algebra is useful.

Course Description & Outline

The first two days of Basic Chemometrics PLUS will cover the fundamentals of the most commonly used chemometric methods, principal components analysis (PCA) and partial least squares (PLS) regression. Emphasis will be on applying these techniques in the chemical process and laboratory environment for pattern recognition, instrument calibration, and sample classification. The course material is drawn from our popular Eigenvector University Series. The class begins with a brief review of Linear Algebra for Chemometricians, and moves quickly into Chemometrics I:PCA and then on to Chemometrics II: Regression and PLS. Aspects of Sample Classification methods will also be covered.

The PLUS session on the third day will include an introduction to Machine Learning Methods for Chemometricians, along with hands-on demos and a question and answer period. This is chance for course participants and existing users to find out how their chemometric work-flow can be made more efficient.

Participants must bring their own laptops with current versions of Solo or PLS_Toolbox (and MATLAB) installed. Demo copies will work just fine. Users with Eigenvector accounts can download free demos. If you don’t have an account, start by creating one.

About the Instructor

The courses will be led by Eigenvector President  Barry M. Wise. Dr. Wise holds a doctorate in chemical engineering and is the creator of PLS_Toolbox. Each spring Wise organizes and teaches at  Eigenvector University, the most comprehensive offering of chemometrics classes in the world. Wise has experience in a wide variety of applications spanning chemical process monitoring, modeling and analytical instrument development. He has authored numerous papers in the field of chemometrics and is receipient of the EAS Award for Achievements in Chemometrics and the Herman Wold Medal in Gold for his contributions to the field.
