There are a number of good dining opportunities while on your
way to Manson. We've compiled a list of a few of our favorite
places in the following towns:
The Thirteen Coins Restaurant at 18000 Pacific Highway South is a great place to catch a meal if you are stuck at Sea-Tac. It is just across the street from the airport, in fact, you can walk there in about 5 minutes or take a very quick cab ride. From the baggage claim level in the main terminal, head out the door to the street and turn right. Follow the walkway out to Pacific Highway South. The Thirteen Coins is on the opposite corner of the intersection. If there are only one or two of you, try sitting at the counter and watch the chefs prepare your dinner.
If you go over the North Cascades Highway, you will go right through the town of Twisp. Good food and a rather homey atmosphere is available at the Road House Cafe, which is right on the main street through town. If you have more time and a bigger budget, consider taking a side trip up to Sun Mountain Lodge. The food here is gourmet and beautifully presented. The lodge is great and in a spectacular location. Definitely the finest dining experience within 100 miles!
Amy's Manor is located up the Methow River about 5 miles from Pateros. Amy's Manor is actually a bed and breakfast, located up on the side of the valley in a great old farm house. The owner, Pam Miller, also does great meals accompanied by lots of information about the meal preparation, sometimes including recipes. Try to catch one over the holidays for a really enjoyable time.
All of the dining establishments in Cle Elum are pretty much on the main street, which is easy to get to from the I-90 exit on the West end of town (the first Cle Elum exit as you come from Seattle). Cle Elum has the usual assortment of fast food (we wind up at Dairy Queen quite often). For a nicer meal try Mama Vallone's at the West end of town. Mama's also has a great kids menu. The Cle Elum Bakery towards the East end of town has great treats. If you need an expresso or latte, try Northern Expresso on the East end.
Leavenworth, the Bavarian Village, is something of a tourist trap, but it is so well done that you really won't mind. There are plenty of good places to eat in Leavenworth, but one of our favorites is the Leavenworth Brewery, on the main street at the West end of town. Try a Whistling Pig Ale or other Northwest Micro Brew there.
For a quick bite close to the highway, check out Rusty's Drive-In in Cashmere. Get there by exiting Highway 2 on the East side of Cashmere at the stop light. It is just about 50 yards South of the highway, you can't miss it.
McGlinn's, on Orondo Street, features an apple wood fired oven that produces great thin crust pizza with just a hint of smoke flavor. Try ordering a couple of different kinds and trading slices. Their burgers are great too. McGlinn's also has a great selection of Northwest beers on tap. The Wenatchee Roaster and Ale House, located across from the Convention Center, offers a great selection of home fair, such as roast turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy.
If you are hungry after flying into Pangborn Field in East Wenatchee, there are many fast food establishments along Grant Road. If you want to stop for something nicer, we reccomend Garlini's Ristorante Italiano at 810 Valley Mall Parkway E, which is the "main street" of old East Wenatchee. To get there from Pangborn, follow Grant Road West (downhill) until you get the the second to the last light, which is the intersection with Valley Mall Parkway. Turn right on Valley Mall Parkway and go about a half mile past the mall and the KFC. Garlini's is on the left.
If you need an expresso or latte between Wenatchee and Chelan, stop at The Daily Grind in Entiat. It will be on your right as you go through the section of Entiat where the road has a middle turn lane.
There are several nice restaurants in Chelan including
Campbell's Restaurant, 104 W Woodin Ave. If you are looking for something less
formal, Campbell's Pub upstairs from the restaurant or Deep Water Brewery 225
Hwy 150 (2 miles past down town Chelan towards Manson) are good bets. Both Deep
Water and Campbell's Pub offer a selection of Micro Brews on tap. For Mexican
food, La Laguna 114 N Emerson (one-half block North of Woodin Avenue) or La
Brisa 246 W Manson Rd (4 lane section of Highway 150) are nice. Hungry Belly
246 W Manson Rd (near La Brisa) is great and has both American and Thai food.
For something quick, the Lakeview Drive-In 323 W Manson Rd, on the way out of
Chelan (across from Red Apple Market) is also very good (open summer only).
Uncle Tim's in downtown Manson
offers burgers, pizza and pasta. We especially like the burgers
and the meatballs. The pizza is great too but sometimes the vegatables
are a little to raw for my tastes--just tell them to cook it a
bit more. For a bit of local color, try My Buddy's Place,
a tavern across the street from Uncle Tim's. The burgers are cheap,
greasy and delicious. The Burger Barn, on the
way into town (across from the turn off into Wapato Point) fixes
a great Jalopeno burger.
