PLS_Toolbox/Solo 4.2
Model CacheReleased January, 2008: Eigenvector Research is pleased to announce the release of our flagship PLS_Toolbox 4.2 and stand-alone Solo 4.2. Once again, we've added a host of new features to help make your life easier and more productive.

Our new model and data cache, shown at left, helps you keep track of your data sets and the models you've made with them, includiing the parameters you've used in your modeling. Each time you make a model, it is saved to the cache along with the data used to create it. The cache keeps models 60 days, (or however long you decide), and allows you to easily go back to earlier versions.

We've also added a "critical information" window, shown below right, that directs you to the plots that you should always review. Then just click on the small version of the plot of interest to expand the view or change the plot. Critical Plots Window

Other new features in version 4.2 include the addition of interval PLS (iPLS) to the main analysis interface, additional tools for Classical Least Squares (CLS), additional clustering methods, and tools for the automatic selection of number of factors in PCA and PLS models.

Not familiar with Solo? Our stand-alone Solo 4.2 lets you use the main analysis tools from PLS_Toolbox in a purely point-and-click environment. Solo is powered by MATLAB® libraries, so you get MATLAB's numerical accuracy and speed. But you don't have to own MATLAB to use it. That's why we call it Solo! And all the new point-and-click features we add to PLS_Toolbox go directly into Solo as well.

Solo lets you do PCA, Multi-way PCA, PLS regression, PLS discriminant analysis, and even curve resolution and PARAFAC in the same intuitive interface. Like PLS_Toolbox, Solo allows users to edit data sets either graphically or in a familiar spreadsheet-like interface. Data can be imported from a variety of sources, including spreadsheets, MATLAB .mat files, Galactic .spc files, and delimited ASCII files. Solo uses the same DataSet Object format as Eigenvector's other MATLAB toolboxes.

Current users get PLS_Toolbox 4.2 or Solo 4.2 now from your account.

Short Course News

Chemometrics in Rome: Eigenvector Associate Rasmus Bro will join Barry Wise to present Basic Chemometrics in Rome, Italy, October 27-29, 2008. The course will be held near the campus of the University of Rome, Sapienza Università di Roma. A computer classroom at CASPUR, the Interuniversity Consortium for Supercomputing and Research, will be the venue for this hands-on course.

Other Short Course News: Eigenvector will present Chemometrics without Equations (CWE) and our new course, Advanced Chemometrics without Equations (ACWE) at FACSS (Reno, NV, September 28-October 2, 2008). ACWE is a great follow-on course for the many hundreds of you that have taken CWE. Both courses are hands-on and will use the upcoming PLS_Toolbox 5.0. Course dates are Sunday and Monday, September 28-29 for CWE, and Tuesday, September 30 for ACWE. Registration will be handled through FACSS.

Eigenvector's Neal Gallagher will present Practical Aspects of Batch Process Monitoring, a half-day tutorial, at Sematech's AEC/APC XX conference in Snowbird, UT, October 5, 2008. Registration is through Sematech.

We'll also be back at EAS (Somerset, NJ, November 16-20, 2008) with our one day version of Chemometrics without Equations. Eigenvector Associate Don Dahlberg will lead the course on Sunday, November 16. Registration will be handled by EAS.

Refinery New Products for On-Line Predictions:
Solo_Predictor and Model_Exporter

We're pleased to announce the release of two new products for putting chemometric models on-line, Solo_Predictor and Model_Exporter. Both of these tools can be used to put models developed in PLS_Toolbox and Solo on-line, but in different ways. As its name implies, Solo_Predictor is a stand alone prediction engine that can be used directly with PLS_Toolbox or Solo models. Model_Exporter, on the other hand, translates PLS_Toolbox and Solo models into numerical recipes that can be imbedded into your own applications. The features of each are listed below.

Solo Predictor

  • Stand alone prediction engine for PLS_Toolbox/Solo models
  • Supports PCA, PLS, PCR, CLS, PLS-DA, PARAFAC, etc...
  • Handles missing data, variable alignment
  • Supports advanced preprocessing methods
  • TCP/IP socket and ActiveX interfaces
  • Supports calibration transfer/instrument standardization
  • For more info, please see the Solo_Predictor page
Model Exporter
  • Converts PLS_Toolbox/Solo models into simple numerical recipe
  • Output is easily parsable text script
  • Works with PCA/PCR/PLS models with preprocessing
  • No external libraries required
  • Output formats include:
    - XML
    - Matlab m-file (for use in MATLAB or Octave)
    - Tcl script (for use in Tcl or Symbion)
  • For more info, please see the Model_Exporter page
