Athletic Club. EigenU will also include a MATLAB®/PLS_Toolbox
User Poster Session, a Workshop Dinner, and a User Group Meeting.
About
Seattle
Seattle,
sandwiched between Puget Sound, Lake Washington and Lake Union,
and the Cascade and Olympic mountain ranges, is a distractingly
beautiful city and mecca to outdoor sports enthusiasts. Yes, it
rains, but that doesn't stop the natives from taking advantage of
the local terrain. For a city of its size, Seattle also has an amazing
array of restaurants. Check out the Seattle
Savvy Diner Guide or this Seattle
Restaurant Guide compiled by the UW Computer Science Department.
To get a good view of the city, take a ride on one of the many Washington
State Ferries or visit the top of the Space
Needle. Be sure to check out Pike
Place Market and the Seattle
Art Museum. You'll also find an amazing variety of coffee and
beer in Seattle, which is home to Starbucks,
Seattle's Best Coffee,
Tully's, Redhook,
Hales, Pyramid,
Big Time, and many
smaller roasting and brewing companies. If you want general visitor
information, check out the Seattle
Visitor Information Center, or Seattle
Sidewalk.
Target
Audience
Our
Chemometrics Courses are aimed at engineers, chemists and
other scientists who want to be able to analyze their own laboratory
or process data, develop their own data models or develop instruments
that produce analytical data. The courses are especially well suited
for those with an interest in process analytical technology (PAT)
in the pharmaceutical industries, metabonomics, and systems biology. The courses are also useful for
those that manage staff that generate and analyze data. The courses
serve individuals with a need for exploratory data analysis, development
of predictive models such as analytical instrument calibrations,
soft sensor models, multivariate statistical process control, fault
detection, instrument standardization and sample classification.
No prior knowledge is needed to begin this series of courses, although some knowledge
of basic statistics and elementary linear algebra is useful.
About
the Instructors
The majority of the Eigenvector staff will be on-hand for Eigenvector University.
This may include Eigenvector Research President and PLS_Toolbox
creator Barry M. Wise, Vice-President
and co-founder Neal B. Gallagher,
Chief of Technology Development Jeremy
M. Shaver, Chief Eigenspectroscopist Willem
Windig, Senior Applications Scientist Robert
T. Roginski, and Software Engineer R.
Scott Koch.
The
Eigenvector staff will be joined by Associate Rasmus
Bro, Professor at the University of Copenhagen. His
Chemometrics Group in the Department of Food and Dairy Science is
well known for their work in the development and application of
chemometric methods. Rasmus has extensive experience applying and
teaching multi-way analysis, including his web
courses. Dr. Bro is the recipient of the 2004 Eastern Analytical
Symposium Award for Achievements in Chemometrics.

MATLAB/PLS_Toolbox/Solo
User Poster Session and User Group Meeting
The
EigenU Poster Session will be Tuesday, May 18, at 6:00 at the Washington
Athletic Club. The Poster Session is a chance for MATLAB, PLS_Toolbox and Solo users to showcase
their own chemometric achievements and share results and remaining
problems with other users, the EigenU instructors. We'll also have a brief User Group meeting where attendees can see what's in the future of Eigenvector software development and give their input and feature requests.
The poster
session and user group meeting will include beverages and hors d'oevres. Apple iPod Nanos
will be awarded to the presenters of the two best posters, as judged by EVRI staff. Attendance at
the poster session is free and open to all EigenU attendees and Eigenvector software users.
If you would like to present your work, please send a title and
brief abstract to bmw@eigenvector.com.
Please be sure to describe how PLS_Toolbox, Solo or our other software products were used in the work.
PLS_Toolbox/Solo PowerUser Tips & Tricks
OK, so you know how to make basic PCA and PLS models. But how do you capture the full power of Eigenvector software? Come to the PLS_Toolbox/Solo PowerUser Tips & Tricks session and we'll show you! Learn how to add a custom preprocessing method, a custom toolbar button, or a data importer. Find out how you can use PlotGUI from the command line to streamline plotting of any MATLAB data. Join us from 5:30-8:30 on Wednesday, May 19, and we'll show you these tricks and many more, and feed you dinner! We'll have a simple, yet delicious pasta bar with beverages so you won't get distracted by hunger pangs and miss any great software features.
Workshop Dinner
Join us on Thursday, May 20 at Torchy's for a great meal and chance to unwind with your new chemometric colleagues. Enjoy the upscale yet relaxed atmosphere as the WAC's Chef Will prepares fresh seasonal cuisine. Order from a special limited menu developed for us by the WAC's culinary experts. We'll provide plenty of beverages, including Northwest beers and wines selected from Torchy's extensive cellar.
